Visitor's Guide to Leaf Rapids - Come visit us soon.
Leaf Rapids’ long and warm days are ideal for anyone who loves the outdoors. Summer days are hot and dry with almost 20 hours of sunlight and there are many activities to keep you busy! Within the town limits there are tennis courts, playgrounds for children, and a free 9 hole golf course. Walking paths and bush trails wind in and out of the surrounding forest and across the crest of eskers, where sinkholes thousands of years old give character to the landscape. Your hikes will take you deep into the forest, past scenic waterfalls and rapids. Sandy beaches offer recreation for the whole family at Turnbull Lake and Newfie Beach. The water lays cool and clear and offers a refreshing swim for everyone. Recreational boaters and water skiers delight in the calm waters and long days. And the majestic Churchill River system and surrounding lakes offer exceptional pike, walleye and trout fishing. If hunting is a pastime you enjoy, you won't be disappointed. The sunsets are like no other and should not be missed. In the crystal, clear and cold days of winter the days may be short but the recreation pursuits are plenty. Snowmobile and cross country trails crisscross the forest through some of the most isolated and beautiful areas imaginable. Ice fish from your ice house on Turnbull Lake. The Leaf Rapids National Exhibition Centre features traveling historic and cultural displays as well as local and regional artists exhibits. Each year, two to four live performances in the theatre are offered for youth and adults. Leaf Rapids signature event is held during the third week of March. The Leaf Rapids Winter Carnival brings fun winter games and activities to delight the entire family. Canada Day celebrations bring out young and old alike to celebrate this wonderful country that we live in. |
